Presented by Jeff Rogers. Virtual Reality has advanced by leaps and bounds over the past few years, bringing it into the hands of more users and producers who are putting the growing medium to use. The UITS Advanced Visualization Lab presented this series on how the medium of virtual reality has proven to be useful in fields ranging from education and learning to training, science, design, and evaluation.

2021 Supercomputing for Everyone Augmented, Virtual, and Extended Reality seminar series at Indiana University.

This weekly series highlighted a variety of topics for discussion related to virtual reality as it existed in 2021 and its utility as a tool in education and other contexts. Discussions covered the overarching concepts of virtual reality with the primary focus on using virtual reality to move toward a goal. Speakers included domain experts such as Laura Shackelford and John Stone along with technology and content experts from the Advanced Visualization Lab and Cyberinfrastructure for Digital Humanities & Creative Activities group. Topics include the medium of VR as well as interface issues as they relate to particular hardware styles, along with areas where VR was being applied as a tool for learning, training, science, and evaluation. Some of the technologies used in creating new VR experiences in these and other disciplines were also explored.

The seminar series was hosted by Bill Sherman, senior technical advisor, Advanced Visualization Lab, Research Technologies a division of University Information Technology Services and a center in the Pervasive Technology Institute at Indiana University.

The Supercomputing for Everyone Series (S4ES) of training workshops aims to bring more users into the realm of advanced computing, whether it be visualization, computation, analytics, storage, or any related discipline.
